Pintastic People: Amanda Rodriguez

I love the Pinterest boards of Amanda Rodriguez because she has such a clear vision and aesthetic. Each board and pin is curated perfectly. And coming from the design centric city of Stockholm it's no surprise she has such an impeccably eye for that Scandinavian minimalism style I can't get enough of. Below she answers a few of my questions about Pinterest, style and living in Sweden.

How did you get started on pinterest?
I heard about it from a friend and got hooked immediately!

Your pinterest has such a clean and minimalist style, when you started was that a conscious choice or was it just what you ended up pinning based on taste?
I have always loved the clean and harmonic feeling in a picture, but I think it grew more with my time on Pinterest, which made my style more clear.

You are also an interior stylist, do you use pinterest for inspiration for your job?
Absolutely.

Who are some of your biggest style and design influences?
I specific interior designer is really hard to choose, but my favorite painter is Hilma AF Klint and photographer is definitely Francesca Woodman.

You are from Stockholm, a city known for great design, how does your city inspire you?
Tons, the city has a lot of hidden places and details that people often just pass by but if you look harder there is so much inspiration.

And what are a couple local spots you'd recommend to visitors to Stockholm?
Definitely the area Södermalm, you have all the beautiful parks, cafes, restaurants, bars and people. Can you ask for more?

What are your favorite things to do when not pinning or blogging?
Dance, ride around on my bicycle, listen to magic music, hang out with my loved ones and just try to be as creative as possible every single day.

Last but not least, who are a few of your favorite pinners?

Pintastic People: Camille Styles

Austin based lifestyle blogger, Camille Styles, posts some of the most inspiring and creative content on one of my favorite blogs, Camillestyles.com. Her eye for all things beautiful carries over seamlessly to her pinterest boards. Which is why I was thrilled to get a chance to ask her a couple questions about blogging, pinning and being a brand new mom.

How did you get started on pinterest?I heard about Pinterest from some blogger friends very soon after its launch, and I was hooked immediately. After years of tearing pages out of magazines that inspired me, then scanning them into my computer and trying to find a good way to keep thousands of images organized, I was beyond thrilled to discover a platform that helped me keep all my inspiration (and their original sources!) in one easily accessible place.

What are 3 of your favorite pins from this week?
Charoal outfit  //  cb2 bowl set  //  Peach and roasted fig salad with prosciutto, blue cheese and walnuts

You also have your lifestyle and entertaining blog Camille Styles, how did you get started with blogging?
I used to own an event planning company, and I launched my blog as a fun, creative side project. After a couple of years of writing, I began to define my voice in the blogosphere and gain a readership...and I discovered that blogging is really what I love to do! I decided to take the plunge and stop taking on event clients so I could focus 100% of my energies on blogging and media partnerships, and over the last couple of years we've built a team of 10 contributors who post original content on the site 2 - 3 times daily. It's been an incredible adventure and I feel so lucky to wake up every day being able to do what I love.

What are a few of your favorite sites to find inspiration for your blog and pinterest?
Oh Joy!, The Glow, 101 Cookbooks, Sacramento Street, 100 Layer Cake, Oh Happy Day, DesignLoveFest, This is Glamorous, Grown Up Shoes, The Effortless Chic.

In addition to blogging you also have an events planning business and recently welcomed baby Phoebe to your family! First off congrats! 2nd, how has being a new mom changed the way you work, if at all?
Thanks!! Being a mom has been everything I dreamed of and more. It's amazing how, although my workday is much shorter now (I'm with Phoebe every afternoon), I have become way more productive and really cherish those few uninterrupted hours of time in front of my computer each morning. I've also had to become much better at delegating, and I couldn't live without my talented assistant editor Chanel and brilliant art director Jenn. I'm incredibly thankful to have a team who I know will get it all done, and do a beautiful, creative job every time.

You currently call Austin home, what are your favorite local spots?
I'm "one of those people" who could go on and on about how amazing Austin is, from the exploding food scene, to the creative artist community, to the warm, casual vibe you encounter everywhere in the city. No trip to Austin is complete without tacos al pastor at Fonda San Miguel, latté's at Houndstooth or Café Medici, Bahn Mi at Elizabeth Street Café, gimlets at Drink.Well, oysters at Clark's and fresh pasta at Vespaio. Oh, and you can burn it all off with a shopping trip down South Congress or a run around Ladybird Lake.

What do you do when not pinning or blogging?
Playing with my baby girl Phoebe, cooking dinners with my husband, styling photo shoots for clients, meeting up with girl friends for cocktails, and May - October, inviting friends for all-day pool parties on the weekends (almost that season!)

Last but not least who are a few of your favorite pinners?
Besides you Maia, I love Erin from Apartment 34, Kate from Wit+Delight, Kathryn from Snippet & Ink, my assistant editor Chanel Dror, Sarah Tolzmann from Note to Self.

Happy Friday + Link-o-rama

Happy Friday everyone! Today was exciting for me because a feature I did with Refinery29 came out this morning. It highlights some of the top Bay Area pinners and I was honored to be included with some of my favorite local ladies including Jeanne Chan, Vanessa Correa, Victoria Smith and Christine Martinez. It was so fun having Angela and Maria from the Refinery29 team come to my apartment a few weeks ago and now to final see the outcome, I couldn't be happier!
Now I leave you for the weekend with a few of my favorite reads this week, here, and across the web.

ON CONUNDRUM
I started a new series on the blog, sharing the creative spaces of people that inspire me. Don't miss the inaugural post featuring the amazing Sarah Swell.
A sunny, springtime Smitten List this week!
Don't forget you can now sign up for news and updates from Conundrum?

ELSEWHERE
A fun interview with One Kings Lane buyer Courtney Grace over at Rue Daily.
I'm in love with this DIY knitted snood as featured over on Park & Cube, next weekend project perhaps?
I'm sure many of you have already seen and read all about the Susy Menkes article hoopla and the responses, but if not I highly recommend reading the original piece and some of the well articulated responses.
This week I went into Smitten Kitchens archives and made these delicious cocoa brownies, and they of course, did not disappoint.

Pintastic People: Caitlin Flemming

For today's Pintastic People post I got to chat with the always charming Caitlin Flemming of Sacramento Street. I've been overjoyed to get to know Caitlin over the last year and always find her endlessly inspiring. And her pinterest boards are no different, chock full of beautiful and impeccably curated imagery I can easily get lost scrolling through her pins for hours. Below she answers my questions about pinterest, blogging, and the many hats she wears.

How did you get started on pinterest?
A few years ago, Victoria from sfgirlbybay, reached out to me to see if I'd want to be one of the first hundred people to be part of a Pinterest campaign. To be honest, at first I didn't know what to think - I had the blog, twitter, tumblr and a full-time job so I didn't have a lot of time to dedicate to it at first. But then I became addicted and ditched my tumblr account for Pinterest.

You also have your successful blog Sacramento Street, how does pinterest effect your blogging?
If you look at Sacramento Street and my Pinterest page you'll see that the aesthetic is very similar. I think of it as of an extension of Sacramento Street - a place where readers can see more of what I'm loving but know that I'm staying within my brand. Pinterest has allowed me to give my readers more and in return has brought me new readers.

What are 3 of your favorite pins from this week?
Alright, that's a hard one to answer . . . I'd say this living room, this street style image, and this incredible door handle.

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source material for your blog and pinterest?
There isn't one specific site that I go to in order to get inspired. There are a lot of individuals on Pinterest that are my go-to people for inspiration.

Your blog Sacramento Street is one of my all time favorite blogs, that I've been reading for years, what made you want to start blogging?
Honestly, I wanted a place to call my own. I've always been a creative person and saw all these talented women starting their own sites and blogs. It was right before my birthday back in 2009 that I finally got the courage to start Sacramento Street. At first it was hard because I didn't consider myself a writer by any means but once I was able to find my voice it felt like the right choice and I've never looked back. My husband Eric thought it would last six weeks - I definitely proved him wrong.

To me your blog is all about living with impeccable style, who or what are some of your biggest style influences?
I get inspired in a lot of difference ways - traveling, magazines, Pinterest, local creatives and also by walking around my own city and neighborhood. It's amazing what I find just outside my door sometimes. For design, it doesn't necessarily come from one particular design, but rather looking inside other creative’s homes. I feel as though lived in spaces have so many more stories to tell. As for fashion, I'd have to say street style photography from Paris or London. The women's effortless elegance always gets me and I'm all about simplicity being chic - I'm not the flashy type.

You are also a talented interior designer and stylist, what do you love most about creating a space from scratch?
There's nothing more exciting than a blank palate that needs a lot of love. I love working with clients on creating a spaces that speaks to them and their needs - I want them to use the room.

And do you use Pinterest and blogging to help inspire your work? If so how?
YES! Since I work in a creative field I'm constantly looking for inspiration for different projects. It's been an amazing tool to use with clients as well. They create boards so that I'm able to get a better sense of their aesthetic and taste.

What do you do when not pinning or blogging?
I love going on walks through the Presidio and taking a new trail to discover a new lookout point. I also enjoy cooking at night. It's my time to put away all the technology and rock out to some Mumford & Sons. During the baseball season I enjoy going to Giants game to support my hubbys team and of course I enjoy getting together with girlfriends.

As the name of your blog suggests you are a long time San Franciscan, what are some of your favorite things to do in this city, that always inspire you?
I've lived here for almost 9 years and still haven't done everything there is to do in San Francisco. But I do have a list of favorites. A day going to the Legion of Honor, followed by a walk along Lands End and then going to Outerlands for a bite to eat. If there's time I'd pop into the General Store for a little something special.

Last but not least who are a few of your favorite pinners?
I could list tons but my favorites are some close friends that have my eye and aesthetic . . .
Joslyn from Simple Lovely - all I can say about Joslyn is that she's awesome! I strive to be like her - she has an awesome career, family and style!
Jessica Comingore - her eye is impeccable
Julie Goebel (my mom) - We have the same style and taste - sometimes I find myself pinning everything from her boards.

Pintastic People: Ez Pudewa

Ez Pudewa is the creative mind behind the blog Creature Comforts where she shares inspiration, advice and "the little things that make life sweet". Looking at her beautiful blog it's no wonder she also has one of the most inspiring pinterest accounts. With boards focused on color and DIY and food, the image orgy is endless. Which is why I was so psyched to get a chance to ask her a couple questions about blogging, pinterest and how she got started in this online world.

How did you get started on pinterest?
I found out about Pinterest a short time after Victoria (sfgirlbybay) shared it on her blog. I immediately loved the idea of having a place to store and share visual inspiration in a community environment. It was such a refreshing concept after spending years using clunky file folders on my computer and other less-than-adequate bookmarking sites.

You also have your successful blog Creature Comforts, how does pinterest effect your blogging? I love using Pinterest both as a source of inspiration for the posts I write, as well as a place to explore what is resonating well with users (I can see this reflected in the content that is pinned from my blog to Pinterest). It doesn't always determine what I post on my own site, but it is certainly a great help along the way.

What are 3 of your favorite pins from this week?
Smore's Macarons  //  The Struggle is Part of the Story  //  Modern Polaroids.

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source material for your blog and pinterest?
I spend a lot of time on Society6 (where I also have a print shop), on Instagram (just for wonderful everyday inspiration), and etsy (for great handmade goods and vintage finds).

Your blog, Creature Comforts is such a beautiful place filled with DIY's, personal thoughts, color inspiration and more, how did you first come up with the idea for your blog?
Thanks! Truthfully I didn't fully understand the concept of what a blog was until after a free trial offer sucked me in (that was 6+ years ago). At first my blog was just a place for me to write thoughts on daily life and share my passion for handmade goods. I definitely didn't have a clear goal or theme in mind (blogging as a profession wasn't even something that I knew existed yet). So in the beginning I had just a few loyal readers and then gradually as I found more focus with what I was sharing, more and more people started to read what I was posting. So awesome! Today and every day I feel endlessly lucky to call myself a blogger!

You've been blogging for quite some time now, what are some of the most rewarding aspects of blogging for you?
By far, the most rewarding aspect of blogging is the community it fosters. From the amazing readers who inspire and motivate me, to my fellow bloggers who I feel so lucky to work amongst…there is really nothing else like it! Secondarily, one of the biggest assets of blogging professionally is having the ability to set my own schedule. Of course this isn't always easy, since it means that I have to fight the urge to be lazy and sit around in sweats on some days, and it can get pretty quiet with no co-workers to chat with. But it's because of blogging that I've been able to provide for my daughter in a way that I would not have otherwise been able to, and have met some of the most incredible people who I am now proud to call friends.

This summer you helped instigate the inspiring "Things I'm Afraid to Tell You" posts that swept the blogosphere, can you tell me a little more about this series and why you felt it was so important?
I was inspired by Jess Lively (author of the original TIATTY post) and mentioned her post in passing on my blog. I never expected that one link to generate so much interest, but through social media the idea caught on like wildfire. Within hours, a huge group of bloggers had committed to post on their own blogs, something that they were previously too afraid to share with their readers. The results were amazing, moving, and beautiful! I believe the indication from the outpouring of support shown for the brave bloggers who shared their TIATTY posts, is that there is a true desire these days for connection to more than just a pretty picture. I personally believe that anything is made more beautiful when you can see what lies beneath it. For me, "Things I'm Afraid to Tell You" was a way to peel back the layers and be a bit more vulnerable and authentic with the blogging community that I love so much. It's something that moving forward I will continue to push myself to do. That one post and other similar posts I've shared have truly deepened the relationship I have with my readers, and I'm so humbled by and grateful for it all!

What do you do when not pinning or blogging?
I hang out with my daughter and our two goofy dogs, take photos, draw, and I love to gluten-free make desserts! Yum!

Do you have any hidden talents that you'd be willing to share?
Gosh…well, I can play the piano by ear (but can't read a note of music to save my life). Does that count?

Last but not least who are a few of your favorite pinners?
I have so many (I actually have a series on my blog called Pinterest Pros where I share my weekly faves), but for today my favorites are: The Gilded Lobster | Caro Chase | Julia Suter

Pinning this Week: Pale Pink

Pinterest is my favorite place to notice and compile themes or trends that are catching my eye. And I wanted to share my favorite finds here. This week I noticed I was continuously drawn to pins with soft girly pinks, below are just a few of my favorites.

Pintastic People: Megan Gilger

Michigan based designer and blogger, Megan Gilger has the type of pinterest boards you can get lost in for hours. With categories ranging from stationary to adventure she's got something for everyone to get inspired by. Which is why I was so psyched to get a chance to ask her a few questions about Pinterest, blogging and what's currently inspiring her.

How did you get started on pinterest?
Some friend told me they thought I would like it as a blogger so I signed up for an invite and within 24 hours I was on it and obsessed. I was no good at it at first, but boy did I love it!!!

What are 3 of your favorite pins from this week? cozy dinner party  //  Bridgitte and Jane  //  vintage beauty

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source materiel for your blog and pinterest?
I source much of my images from my friends photography blogs or personal blogs. Also for design I look at Design Work Life or Graphic Exchange. When I have the time I will pull from blogs on my reader.

You also have your successful blog The Fresh Exchange, design studio Hitch design, and you're the co-founder of blog brunch how does pinterest effect all of these other projects?
Pinterest acts as the backbone of inspiration and idea gathering for all of my projects. When I started using Pinterest it first was just a place I placed inspiring things that brought on ideas for a design project or a blog post, but now it helps me to identify my style and what I like. It helped me build my curation skills and have confidence in what I love. This is super important for designers and creatives. You have to have confidence in your eye, if you don't then how can you convince others to have confidence in it?

Honestly where do you find the time?
I work a lot and I would love to say it is exhausting, but it isn't. I some how ended up doing what I would be doing even if I wasn't being paid. So whether I am working on Art directing a video in paris or designing a new brand story for a small business I feel so excited and lucky. Honestly though I have to purposely make time for friends and family, but I don't watch much TV and I work at least 12-14 hours everyday. But like I said this is what I want to be doing. If I am not doing it, I feel unhappy and truthfully unsuccessful. I have to create everyday and if I don't I get really anxious and feeling very depressed. It sounds silly, but what I do is what I am supposed to be doing 100% if I wasn't doing this I would be working another job trying to get to where to where I am. So I think work a lot because I love it and because I feel very lucky and grateful.

Tell me more about Blog Brunch and how you came up with this idea?
I cannot claim I came up with the idea because it was Katie who approached me to help her make it all happen. But upon us meeting and deciding to start it we have jointly collaborated to further develop Blog Brunch in to what it is today. Our goal from the beginning has been to place the blogger first. We want to help build educated, more connected, and more confident bloggers through learning from one another and bridging a gap between all the various types and levels of bloggers that exist. We are focused on making this community connected in ways it is not currently. We have big things planned and cannot wait to make it all come together!

You are also a successful graphic designer and owner of Hitch Design Studio, who are some your biggest design influencers?
To be honest I use to look at a lot of design when I began my business and I jumped in to the design world. I love Jessica Hische and Allan Peters, but lately I stopped looking at other's work to be honest. I try to find inspiration through critique of good friends and my husband (who is also a designer). I found by looking at too much of other people's work mine took on a look that was similar and this did not feel good to me. So I really try to follow my instincts as a designer.

If you could design for your dream client, who would it be?
I feel like I recently landed my dream clients. I want to be working with brands that are doing good on some level whether it be a brand that is working to build a stronger community atmosphere or upcycling to create new products. Currently I have these brands and working with them day in and day out. I love them and I get to work alongside my husband to make these brands come to life. It couldn't be anymore ideal, honestly.

Do you have any hidden talents? If so what?I have a random knack for remembering numbers in sequences and I am crazy good at directions especially in cities. I also am a cook...but I don't know how hidden that is, but I really love it and I think I might be pretty good at it.

What do you do when not pinning or blogging?Well typically I am designing, but completely outside of work I really enjoy cooking, spending time with friends and family, and being outdoors. I try to be outside as much as possible because so much of our work is at a desk. I love hiking and we live in the perfect place for it and it makes our dogs very happy every day that we go for an hour to clear our minds in the woods.

Why you love blogging and pinning?I love it because I have always loved curation. It didn't occur to me that that was what I loved till I began blogging and then pinning really helped me define myself as a creative. It helped me see things about myself I did not know, which eventually helped me become a better blogger. All of which has really brought to light my strengths and weaknesses as a creative and that ultimately leads to a clearer direction and more joy in what I do.

Who are a few of your favorite pinners?Oh man I have a few! So I hope it is okay I give you 6 of them :)
Michael Newsted --- Amazing eye for color and images. He is one of my favorite curators around
Amy Moore ---- She has a great eye for design
Pennyweight --- Elise has been a favorite since the day I got on Pinterest. She has an amazing eye.
Amanda Jane Jones --- Amanda's pins are clean, raw, well designed, and simple. I dig that.
Jonathan Grant--- Imagine humor, nostalgia, and high-fashion all together. Yup it's awesome.
Kate @Wit+Delight --- Kate is a super talented designer so naturally her eye for fashion and interiors is just as great

Note: Photos are from Megan's recent trip to France and Italy, you can see more on her blog The Fresh Exchange.

Pintastic People: Kate Arends

Minneapolis based designer, blogger and pinner extraordinaire, Kate Arends, has an amazing eye for all things beautiful. Nowhere is this more apparent than her multitude of inspiring finds on Pinterest. Which, is why I knew I had to include her as one of my Pintastic People! I met Kate earlier this year and loved getting to know her. It was great to get a another chance to catch up with her to chat about pinterest, blogging and why she loves the Midwest.

How did you get started on pinterest?
I started using Pinterest shortly after Victoria had raved about it. I loved being able to share my internet discoveries and quickly connected with other pinners who's taste I admired.

You also have your successful blog "wit & delight". How does pinterest affect your blogging?
I've found myself blogging less since I've become active on Pinterest, Twitter and Tumblr. I'm still working on ways to balance content across all platforms. I'm launching a shiny new blog and portfolio site right after the new year and I'm really excited to share those changes with my readers.

What are three of your favorite pins from this week?
Oh this is tough! I'd say this photo of my favorite internet dog, Maddie. This incredible credenza. And this watch. I ordered one immediately after I pinned it.

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source materiel for your blog and pinterest?
I'm really enjoying Nuji. They're partnered with some of the most unique online shops around and the taste level of Nuji users is unparalleled to any site like it, Svpply aside.

What do you do when not pinning or blogging?
I love to cook. I try to challenge myself with a few new recipes each month. I'm also into running and spending time with friends.

You live in Minneapolis, one of my favorite midwestern cities, what do you love most about living in the Midwest?
Having all four seasons! I actually enjoy the winters here. Cozy sweaters, fires, big pots of homemade soup, what's not to love?!

What are a few of your favorite, local haunts?
There's a lot to love about the Twin Cities, but the two areas I love are Selby Street in St. Paul (Black Blue, Happy Gnome, Blue Door Pub, Up Six) and The North Loop (Bachelor Farmer, Askov Finlayson, The Foundary Home Goods, Bar La Grassa). My favorite restaurant is Travail.

When you get the urge to escape, what are some of your dream vacation spots?
I'm usually more inclined to city vacations, but this year has been so hectic, I'm craving something low key. I'd love to tuck away in a cabin up in the mountains somewhere. Or be laying on a very quiet beach in the Caribbean.

Do you have any hidden talents? If so, what?
I can drink a beer with my elbows. Seriously.

Why do you love blogging and pinning?
The inspiration! I've found that curating content has made me a better observer, thinker and designer.

And last but certainly not least who are a few of your favorite pinners?

Pinning This Week: Light Neutrals

Pinterest is my favorite place to notice and compile themes or trends that are catching my eye. And I wanted to share my favorite finds here. This week I've been noticing quite a few images catching my eye that were mostly in muted whites, dove grays and soft linen tones. I don't know if this influence is trying to tell me I need a little calm and simplicity in my life or what, but whatever it is I can't get enough of it. Below are just a few of my favorites. 1. Danish Waffle via Bayaderka 2. Sweater Dress via Musings in Femininity 3. Box houses via Le Dilemma 4. Bedroom via Bliss Blog.

Pintastic People: Satsuki Shibuya

For today's "pintastic people"post I got a chance to talk with Satsuki Shibuya, an artist and designer I have an immense amount of respect for. She's always trying something new and doing what she loves most, which isn't always easy. Her pinterest boards reflect her eye for the extraordinarily beautiful and her curatorial abilities have me constantly repinning! Below she answers my questions about pinterest, inspiration, and her many current projects.

Image of Satsuki shot by her husband Kevin Thoeng

How did you get started on pinterest?
When my husband and I closed on our house last year and were looking at how to furnish our home, we would go back and forth with emails containing a million links (or, at least, that's what it felt like). I was looking for a way to organize the links with images and then I found pinterest! It really made things easier after finding each other.

What drew you to pinterest and keeps you coming back?
I've always been a hoarder of images/clippings etc. As you can imagine, my computer was filled with all of this information, albeit in a very unorganized way. With pinterest, not only am I able to keep my eye candy organized, I'm also able to go back to where I found them originally and, even better, when I look over all the pins I've collected I begin to see connections for future projects.

What are 3 of your favorite pins from this week?
These three pins sum up what's been on my mind this past week — my grandmother, a few new pieces for the fall/winter season and interesting ways of presenting the everyday.
1 // 2 // 3

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source materiel?
I'm really all over the place and find sources in a number of ways. It usually depends on my mood and what i feel like looking at. It can be anything from googling a word that I'm thinking of, to scrolling through hundreds of sites on tumblr, to visiting my friend's blogs. The more I search, the more I realize how crazy of a universe the internet has become.

It seems like you have so much going on currently from your partnership with Koshka to your new enterprise, dreamcoop. First of all congrats! 2nd tell us a little about each of these projects?
Thank you so much! Since closing up shop in august I am now creating one-of-a-kind art objects instead. I've been able to focus my energies on designing pieces collaboratively if I want, or anything else for the matter! It's been great working with Koshka and getting a chance to make something specifically for them. I'm hoping that this is just the beginning of many more fun collaborations with different companies/individuals!

As for dreamcoop, it's a hybrid between consulting, life coaching and philanthropy. Since the beginning my focus has been to create projects that, hopefully, will connect with people on a human level. But, I also wanted to start a project where I would get the opportunity to take it a step further and interact with individuals directly. I guess, in a way, I feel like I've come full circle. I'm not sure where this new venture will take me, but, so far it's been an awesome experience!

And how did you come up with the idea for dreamcoop?
It was the cumulation of many experiences that I wanted to somehow bring together. I had run a women's entrepreneur group for 3 years where we discussed our everyday struggles, goals and visions. Through this I had the opportunity to engage with such amazing individuals who opened my eyes to different perspectives. During this time, I was also privately consulting/coaching friends and acquaintances who would kindly share their ideas with me and we would, through our conversations, find ways of bringing these thoughts to life. There was something so magical about seeing the seed of an idea blossom into something bigger than what we both had expected. Just amazing. Along with this, I became deeply engaged with the many problems that we face as a society, specifically, for myself, the many problems that northern Japan still faces after the disaster of last year. Almost everyday in the news, I hear about children committing suicide, adults displaced and depressed, and many others who still remain empty inside after losing so very much. With all that I was being exposed to, I felt that if my philosophy was to truly connect with individuals on a human level with the hope of bringing even a little bit of happiness into the lives of others, then I wanted to have a way to do it more directly. That was the beginning of dreamcoöp.

What do you like to do when not working on your various projects?
I'm beginning to like this idea of doing "nothing". I've never really understood what this meant, as I'm sure many others who's minds are continually chattering can understand. Just pure relaxing, zoning out, not really thinking about anything, but being in the moment. I think we all deserve this for ourselves.

Your boards are always so lovely and have a very clean, european aesthetic, where do you get your design inspiration from.
Wow! Thank you so much! I don't know when it actually began, but before I knew it I was drawn to scandinavian and japanese design. Whether it's graphics, architecture, interior design, product design… I love it all! I feel like those styles have a perfect mix of simplicity and warmth, with a touch of whimsy.

As a native Angeleno what are a few of your favorite local shops and boutiques?
There are so many great shops in LA (and many that I've yet to visit). It's so hard to choose just a handful. There's this adorable fabric shop "momen+ in torrance" where they carry hard-to-find japanese fabrics and patterns. I can spend hours browsing there. I love "The Tortoise General Store" on Abbot Kinney in Venice Beach too, I wish that I could purchase the entire store to furnish my home! There's a delicious vegan restaurant in little tokyo called Shojin. You know the food is good for your body because I met the owner/chef: his skin just glows!

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to go to Japan to see my grandmother. I just want to hold her hand, and let her know how much I appreciate and love her. Also, getting a chance to explore Hokkaido would be nice...or Sweden.

Do you have any hidden talents? if so what?
I can make strange sounds with my mouth that freak out our pup, Skippy, like nothing else!

And last but not least who are a few of your favorite pinners?

Pintastic People: Erin Loechner

Today's pintastic person is especially exciting because not only have I been a long time follower of Erin Loechner's blog, "Design for Mankind", I also feel a kindred connection with her since we are both Midwestern girls. Even though I don't live there anymore, I'm always thrilled to learn about hip, cool women that call the "fly-over-states" home. Not only does Erin seem to have about a million projects going at once, she also recently gave birth to a baby daughter, Bee. Below, she took a little time out of her busy schedule to answer some of my questions about pinterest, blogging, motherhood and how they all work together. Enjoy!

How did you get started on pinterest?
I actually joined Pinterest to help spread the word about the new platform via a great social media campaign Victoria Smith started. (If you ask me, Victoria is the official Pinterest pioneer and a pretty big reason the site has been so welcomed by the design community.) You can see my post here. Like Victoria, I met Pinterest's founder Ben at Alttitude Design Summit while Pinterest was still in beta. I'm so proud of the huge success it's become; Ben and his team deserve every bit of it!

You also have your super successful blog, "Design for Mankind". How does pinterest effect your blogging?
I've found it to be a pretty huge benefit in terms of collecting post inspiration, spotting trends and even building traffic/new readers. Blogging and Pinterest definitely go hand in hand!

What are your three favorite pins this week?
I've been working on a top secret kids project, so I'd say these have been pretty inspiring for my current workload!:

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source material for your blog and pinterest?
I'm continually trolling online art galleries to discover new artists, and I always find inspiring content on Tumblr (although most of it is uncredited, so I rely pretty heavily on Google Image search to track down original sources). TrendLand is an amazing resource, as well!

What do you do when not pinning, or blogging?
I'm a new mother of a 9-week old, so my off-time is pretty entrenched with diaper changes, nursing and cuddles!

Yes, major congrats on the new little one!! How has this new phase in your life changed how you look at blogging, pinning and working online? or has it?
You know, it's been a huge blessing, actually. I'm much less capable of cyberloafing b/c I no longer have time to just get lost on the Internet. I miss that, but I also find that I'm so much more productive! Likewise, I really have to choose projects I'm passionate about, because I only allow so many work hours away from Bee. I'm becoming much better at saying "No!" :)

You also recently launched "Design for Minikind". How did this come about? What is your vision for this new project?
Oh, this has been so much fun. Design for MiniKind began when my programmer spotted my Pinterest board "Design for MiniKind" and asked if that meant I was launching a new site. I told him that if he was up for it, I was! And the site was born, just like that, over a breakfast date with our families in Big Bear, CA.

It's really just a labor of love; a place where I can write weekly letters to Bee and share some cool products I'm finding along the way. It's been a blast so far!

As a hip, stylish women and a new mother, what are a few of your current fashion must-haves?
Ha, I'm knee-deep in the trenches of motherhood right now, so my new uniform has been gray deep v-neck tees and boyfriend jeans that are crazy nursing/spit-up-friendly. I wouldn't necessarily call it fashionable, but it's the season I'm in! I will say I'm looking forward to fall weather so I can embrace chunky knits, trench coats and boots!

Where is your current dream vacation destination?
Oh, it's a toss-up between Iceland and Stockholm. Or Copenhagen. Dang. That's a hard one!

Do you have any hidden talents? if so what?
I can recite all fifty states, alphabetically, in less than 15 seconds. It's pretty spectacular. ;)

Why do you love blogging and pinning?
I love the community it can create. There's something beautiful when you spot someone across the proverbial pond that you can relate to - even in the smallest sense, like bonding over a great DIY tutorial you both love.

Pintastic People: Jonathan Lo

Todays pintastic people features none other then the super amazing Jonathan Lo of J3 Productions and Happy Mundane. I got to meet Jonathan at the beginning of this year and he was easily the most stylish gent in the room. That eye for design and sense of style extends to everything he does, including his pinterest boards. I especially love his Personal Stylin board for the best collection of mens style, as well as his Home Goods board. But honestly I suggest following all, since everything he pins is top notch. Below Jonathan shares a little bit with me about why he loves pinterest, finding inspiration and why he's so stylish.

How did you get started on pinterest?
I remember seeing all the "pin it forward" posts on peoples blogs when Pinterest first launched. Unfortunately, I just didn't really look into it. Over the following year I kept seeing more and more people referring to it and finally decided to check out what all the fuss was about. Little did I know my mind would be blown and I'd immediately be sucked into the Pinterest visual vortex! I've been addicted ever since...

You also have your successful blog, Happy Mundane, design studio J3 Productions, and zine 'At Your Leisure', how does pinterest effect your other projects?
For J3, Pinterest has been a great resource for finding reference materials for client work and just overall inspiration. It's also been an awesome outlet to bring more attention and exposure to the zine, as well as to Happymudnane.

And honestly how do you find the time?
I'm still looking for time! LOL As a person working in a creative field though, aren't we ALWAYS "working"? No but seriously, in general, Work (j3) is priority during the day, and then blogging and pinning are usually done before I go to bed, or first thing in the morning. I find it kind of cathartic to just click, pin, or repin and not really think about having to really write anything or do any more than that. However, I do also think it's just as important to make sure you spend a good amount of time "offline."

What are 3 of your favorite pins this week?

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source materiel for your blog and pinterest?
I actually get most of my blog inspirations from either things I've seen when out and about, traveling, etc... or from magazines (print is not dead!). For Pinterest sources, realsimple.com always has amazing recipies and I can get lost for hours on the Conde Nast Traveller site and if I could buy everything on Mr. Porter, I would!

What do you do when not pinning, or blogging?
I'm usually shopping... or eating... or sleeping, lol. My work requires me to constantly be keeping tabs on what's going on in retail and fashion, but I will confess that the reality is, I'm just a "mall rat." lol
But I do love to travel whenever I can, and I love exploring new cities and areas... oh and eating...

Many people say that Pinterest is all about the ladies, as a gent, what about it appeals to you? And do you agree when people say It's a female-centric platform?
Well, it's pretty obvious that the majority of Pinterest users are female, but the functionality of Pinterest (a way to organize and catalog things you bookmark from the web) is completely gender neutral. What's nice about Pinterest is that you're not forced to look at things you aren't interested in- you can simply "unfollow" that board or person. I'm really more interested in just the visuals so it doesn't really matter if it comes from a guy or a girl. In the end, it just needs to be what YOU like and your own curation of the people and boards that you follow.

You are one of the most stylish men I know, where do you get your style inspiration?
Aww, shucks- thank you! I do try to keep an eye on what's happening in the world of Men's fashion, but really i my style is influenced by the fearlessness and awesomeness of many japanese and european designers, filtered with the easy relaxed lifestyle of living in Southern California.

And what are a few of your must have items?
My iphone, laptop, and a good pair of cheapie sunglasses.

Where is your current dream vacation destination?
I really need to go to Australia. like, now.

Do you have any hidden talents? if so what?
Does being able to inhale an entire pint of ice cream in one sitting count as a talent?

Why you love blogging and pinning?
Blogging and Pinning have given me the opportunity to not only document, but also share the things I love with other people. But I think the best part has been all the new inspirations and friendships I've gained as a result.

Who are a few of your favorite pinners?
There are so many! but here are a few pinners whose pins I am always drawn to: Suzanne Wu, Jan of Poppytalk, Michiko M, & Clodiney Cruz.

Pintastic People: Erin Hiemstra

I'm so excited for todays Pintastic People post featuring the amazing Erin Hiemstra of Apartment34. I seriously love this lady and jump at any excuse to get to chat with her about pinterest and blogging. I met Erin soon after I moved to the Bay Area at a cocktail party and we quickly bonded over our shared love of graphic design, social media and everything about living in the Bay Area (Erin is a recent transplant herself). Since that first meeting Erin has become one of my dearest new friends, who is always my go to gal for anything from business to fashion advice. Below she answers a few of my questions on why she is so amazing :)

How did you get started on pinterest?
Living in the heart of tech and start-up land, I heard about the Pinterest beta rather early and actually met Pinterest founder Ben at the Altitude Design Summit, a bloggers conference, just after the site launched nearly two years ago. I was immediately hooked and have never looked back!

You also have your successful blog Apartment34, how does pinterest effect your blogging?
Pinterest has turned into a critical blogging tool - it's where I bank inspiration, find inspiration and also drive a lot of traffic back to my site!

What are 3 of your favorite pins from this week?
Well, now this is a toughie, but if you're going to make me choose, I'm going with these
quote  //  Sunny Harnett  //  A room with an E (it has my initial!)

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source materiel for your blog and pinterest?
I'm constantly on the Tumblr troll looking for new gorgeous images and lately I've been very into Scandinavian design blogs for my home decor related pins.

What do you do when not pinning or blogging?
Is there more time in the day?? Actually, after a Hawaiian vacation this summer I rededicated myself to unplugging regularly. I make time for cooking, wine tasting, a good workout and continuing to explore our adopted city of San Francisco (and the East Bay thanks to you!).

You are one of the chicest women I have ever met, where do you get your style inspiration?
Why thank you, that's so kind! My style inspiration has continued to grow and shift as my life has, but lately I really look to the European approach to style i.e. simple is the new black. I think investing in high quality pieces is key to building a great wardrobe and trends should only come in very small doses.

What are a few of your favorite shops and boutiques?
I'm a huge boutique shopper - I love to support local business and small stores, both online and off. In San Francisco I regularly head to Chloe Rose Boutique, Carrots, La Boutique D'Arte, Acrimony and Rand & Statler - online I love PoppyNYC, KitThis and I won't lie, Net-a-Porter, Nordstrom and Shopbop are good alternatives!

You are always on the go, or jetsetting somewhere it seems, what are 3 must have items for easy and fashionable travel?
When I travel I rely on a classic dark denim jean (I heart JBrand and MiH). You can wear them over and over and no one will notice. A good dress is a complete outfit in a single article of clothing {which saves space} and blazers or scarfs are an easy way to dress up a simple tee or tank. I always fail when it comes to shoes though. I'm known for packing seven pairs for a 3-day trip!

Is there anywhere you haven't been that your dying to visit?
There are entirely too many to list (I've never seen an episode of No Reservations where I didn't want to go where ever Anthony Bourdain is) but my top picks currently include Bali, Coratia, Istanbul, Austin, TX, Ireland and i'll always want to go back to Italy.

Do you have any hidden talents? if so what?
Hmmm, do you consider power shopping a talent? I can play the Entertainer on the piano, dance a decent jig :)

Tell me why you love blogging and pinning so much?
Falling into blogging, and by way pinning, has been a life changing experience. It's allowed me to turn my passions into my career. It's also introduced me to amazing people across the country, and world, many of whom I now call dear friends. I'm so grateful for the creative outlet and the opportunity to do what I love!

Who are a few of your favorite pinners?
My favorite pinners list is very very long but, besides you of course, of late I've been loving Bonnie Tsang, Jennifer Hagler, Sarah G. Marrow, Martha McQuade

Pinning this Week: Chocolate

Pinterest is my favorite place to notice and compile themes or trends that are catching my eye. And I wanted to share my favorite finds here. This week Travis and I have been doing cake tastings for the wedding so it's understandable that I have chocolate on my mind. These are just a few of the ridiculously decadent treats I've been pinning on my dessert board. 1. Nutella Frangelico Ice Cream Sandwiches via Buttercream Blondie 2. Snickers Brownie Bites via My Baking Addiction 3. Dark Chocolate Caramel Truffles with Fleur-de-Sel via Portuguese Girl Cooks 4. S'mores via Minimally Invasive.

Pintastic People: Jeanne Chan

A new series highlighting some of my favorite pinners. I've had the opportunity to meet a few of these amazing people in person and others I've simply admired from afar. But, they all have one thing in common, they have an amazing ability for curating beautiful boards on Pinterest.

Jeanne of Shop Sweet Things was one of the first bloggers I had the pleasure of meeting when I moved to the Bay Area and she was the perfect introduction to the city. One of the sweetest women I have ever met, she is also a super smart businesswomen and cute to boot. When it comes to Pinterest, Jeanne curates some of the chicest boards around, Below she answers a few of my questions about her enviable style, preparing for her 2nd little one and what she loves most about Pinning & Blogging.

How did you get started on pinterest?
I remember Victoria Smith (SF Girl By Bay) talking about Pinterest on her blog and it got me curious, so I signed up and started using it right away.

You also have your successful blog Shop Sweet Things, how does pinterest effect your blogging
Pinterest affects my blogging in several ways. First, it helps me discover new brands, products and even ideas (like DIYs or recipes) where I can introduce to my blog readers. Second, it's a place where I collect inspirations if I am working on a specific project. For example, I recently redesigned my site and I used Pinterest as my mood board to collect colors, types and designs that inspired me. And third, I felt that Pinterest has encouraged me to create more creative & original contents for my blog.

What are 3 of your favorite pins from this week?
Ooooh, that's a tough one, I have so many! 1,2 ,3.

What are a few of your favorite sites to find source materiel for your blog and pinterest?
I don't have any particular site where I often pin from. I actually do a lot of repinning and it really helps me discover new sites. And often, one site leads to another and if I find cool discoveries then I'll pin it to my Pinterest or showcase it on my blog.

What do you do when not pinning or blogging?
I would spend time with my 2 year old daughter, yoga, read a book, or catch up on Keeping Up With The Kardashians - I'm kinda obsessed with them, Kourtney is my favorite. :)

You have an adorable daughter and another wee one on the way, how do they effect your blogging?
It had certainly forced me to work effectively and prioritize my time better. I have a pretty ambitious personality and I constantly have ideas popping up for my blog and I want to get it done fast... but with a kid and being pregnant, that's pretty difficult. So lately, I've realized that it's ok to go at my own pace and knowing when to stop working.

As a super stylish mom, what are your top 3 product picks to stay chic?
I love a cool watch and I wear this Le Mer watch almost all the time. A nice stylish blazer, I recently got this Rachel Comey blazer and been wearing it everywhere I go. And lastly, this is not so much a product, but a nice haircut makes all the difference.

What is your current dream vacation?
I recently did a guest post about this on Apartment 34 as well. :) Aside from that, the other place I really want to take my next vacation is Hong Kong. It's where I'm from but I haven't been back in a few years, so I dying to go back for a visit. It's the ultimate shopping and dining destination!

Who are a few of your favorite pinners?
Jennifer Chong, Bonnie Tsang, Mrs. French, Kirsten Grove, Wit & Delight, Miles to Styles, Happy Mundane, Aaron de Simone and you, of course!
